Oregon Lightning touches down and wipes the radar clean!
DODGE CITY, KS – The Oregon Lightning delivered one of the most electrifying comebacks in arena football history, shocking the Southwest Kansas Storm with a last-second Hail Mary to secure a dramatic 41-40 victory.
The game started with a spark as quarterback Dalton Cole launched a fourth-down bomb to Maurice Ashley, putting the Lightning up 7-0. But the Storm quickly took over, responding with a deep touchdown of their own and piling on the points. By the middle of the second quarter, Oregon found itself in a 33-7 deficit after a dominant display by the Storm.
But then, the skies cleared, and the Lightning struck back.
Lightning Strikes Back
Momentum shifted when Maurice Ashley electrified the crowd with a kickoff return touchdown, igniting a 22-point Oregon surge. Dalton Cole capped off the rally with a rushing touchdown, tightening the score to 33-29. Both teams’ defenses locked in, making key stops, including a crucial goal-line stand by the Storm with seven minutes remaining.
With just 1:20 left on the clock, the Storm extended their lead to 40-29, seemingly putting the game out of reach. But Oregon had other plans. Cole found Marquis Sampson for a touchdown with under a minute left, closing the gap to five. After a failed two-point conversion, the Lightning’s defense forced the Storm into costly mistakes, including a bad snap that stopped the clock and a failed fourth-down attempt that left just four seconds for one final play.
With the game on the line, Dalton Cole remained calm under pressure. Taking his time to set the play— even absorbing a delay of game penalty—he dropped back and delivered a perfect pass to Nicholas Brassell, who hauled it in for the walk-off touchdown. The Oregon Lightning completed the improbable comeback, stunning the Storm with a 42-40 victory.
This win sends a clear message—the Oregon Lightning never back down.
