Lightning Strikes Early but Falls Short Against Billings Outlaws in Season Opener
Redmond, OR – The Oregon Lightning kicked off their season with a hard-fought battle against the 2024 Arena Football Champions, Billings Outlaws. Despite a determined effort, the Lightning fell short in a 78-36 defeat, but the game showcased standout performances and key moments that promise an exciting season ahead.
The Lightning came out strong, with wide receivers Kris Lewis, Marquis Sampson, and Maurice "Moe" Ashley making big plays to ignite the offense. Quarterback Dalton Cole connected with his receiving corps for multiple highlight-worthy receptions, keeping the team in the fight. On the defensive side, KeKe Ardley, Nick Brassell, and Jayzen Armstrong made crucial stops and showed their play making ability, while linemen Rakweon Kent, James Hines, and Malcolm Banks battled in the trenches, setting the tone for physical play throughout the night.
Despite the final score, the game was filled with electrifying moments, including a crucial interception by Brassell and a breakaway touchdown pass in the 4th quarter from Mathew Ioane to Marquis Sampson that energized the crowd. The Billings Outlaws proved to be a tough opponent, executing on key drives and capitalizing on opportunities to secure the win.
