Lightning Fall to Wolfpack in Week 7 Battle
The Oregon Lightning returned home to the First Interstate Bank Center in Week 7, ready to face their border rivals, the Washington Wolfpack. Both teams entered the matchup with identical 1-4 records and a sense of urgency to stay alive in the playoff race. Despite a hard-fought second-half surge, the Lightning ultimately fell to the Wolfpack, 41-30.
Early Struggles Set the Tone
Oregon’s offense got off to a slow start, facing heavy pressure from the Washington defense. Quarterback Dalton Cole was under duress early, leading to a handful of mistakes, including an interception and a fumbled snap. The Lightning found themselves trailing 20-0 at halftime after Washington capitalized on strong field position and key turnovers.
A Second-Half Spark
The Lightning showed tremendous heart in the second half, refusing to let the game slip away without a fight. Maurice Ashley ignited the comeback effort with a thrilling 50-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, putting Oregon on the board late in the third quarter.
Moments later, the Lightning defense stepped up, recording a safety to trim the deficit further. Jordan Ambrose added to the momentum with a 30-yard rushing touchdown, breaking through the Wolfpack defense and breathing new life into the home crowd.
The defense wasn’t done yet. Jeremiah Spicer pounced on a Washington fumble in the end zone for another Lightning touchdown, and KeAaris Ardley added a pick-six, helping Oregon score 30 unanswered points in the second half.
Building on the Fight
Despite the early hole, the Lightning showcased resilience, toughness, and playmaking ability across all three phases of the game. Maurice Ashley’s special teams heroics, the defensive unit’s two touchdowns, and Jordan Ambrose’s explosive run highlighted a second half full of positives to build on.
Oregon now sits at 1-5 on the season but will have an immediate opportunity to bounce back. The Lightning travel north next Sunday, May 4, for a rematch against the Wolfpack at Angel Of The Winds Arena in Everett, WA.
The team is focused, hungry, and ready to light it up once again.
